Challenge
An undeveloped, sunny, redwood filled, sloping site. Ground up construction on rural sites comes with a multitude of invisible challenges; septic, geotechnical, addresses, pg&e. The fun challenge is how to orient a home perched on the land without disturbing the mature trees, or natural slope, capturing the full spectrum of the days sun.
Solution
A split level home that responds to the sloping site, sitting close to the terrain with simple geometries that capture the views & vistas, surrounded by the natural meadow and mature trees. No garage or paved driveway allows for a walking progression down to the home in the trees.
