Young America Creative is an architectural practice located in the Bay Area & Santa Cruz specializing in custom single-family residential and commercial /  hospitality projects.  YAC has developed an architectural path inspired by sustainability, craftsmanship and the collaborative exploration of making since 2011.

The ideal applicant for this position will possess an enthusiastic aptitude for design and collaborative attitude towards work.  YAC has two offices - one in Santa Cruz and one in Berkeley, California.  We are looking for a full-time, in person position located in either office.  As a member of a small firm of four other team members, you will work on a diverse range of projects, get experience across every phase of design, and the opportunity to grow as a professional.  

We currently have projects in all stages of design and multiple projects under construction. We offer excellent exposure to all aspects of the design process including construction administration. Our work environment is professional and we promote a healthy work-life balance.


Junior Designer

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • A passion for design & collaborative attitude 

  • 1-4 years of experience in custom residential or hospitality projects   

  • Familiarity with the phases of design and construction assemblies

  • An architectural degree from an accredited 5 year architecture program or equivalent Masters

  • Proficiency in BIM 3D modeling - our office uses ArchiCad; proficiency in ArchiCad is a plus but not required

  • Excellent organization & verbal and written communication skills

This role requires that you:

  • Support the project team in producing complete, accurate and thorough drawing sets for permitting and construction, CSK submittals, client presentations & renderings

  • Assist in studying interior and exterior iterations of design via digital tools

  • Research materials, products and systems and order samples

  • Research California Building Codes as well as Title 24 & ADA regulations and assist in responding to Agency comments 

  • Coordinate with consultants and provide project management support

  • Have excellent time management skills and are able to work self directed & collaboratively

  • Are legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Residency in the San Francisco / Berkeley or Santa Cruz region

YAC offers a competitive salary based on experience. Full time - approximately 40 hours a week, in office in either Santa Cruz or Berkeley. Other YAC benefits will be outlined per contract include: health care plans, generous paid time off, holidays, sick time. 401k plans after qualifying period.  Support for continuing education and professional development.
