Young America Creative is a multidisciplinary design studio with offices in Santa Cruz & Oakland.  We believe the design process is guided by the parameters of place, material integrity, environmental responsibility, client relationships and a close partnership with craft & construction.  YAC has developed an architectural path with a design focus on detail and fabrication in residential and hospitality spaces.

We currently have projects in all stages of design and multiple projects under construction. We offer excellent exposure to all aspects of the design process including construction administration. Our work environment is professional and we promote a healthy work-life balance.

We are currently hiring for Junior Designer & Intermediate Designer positions. We are looking for a individual who is passionate about  design, creatively driven, highly organized, detail oriented, communicative and friendly. Responsibilities include working directly with our team throughout the design process - production and coordination of the building model and all documents in the drawing set, as well as client presentations, consultant coordination, material and systems research, code requirements, agency approval and project administration through construction.

Junior Designer

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • A passion for design & collaborative attitude 

  • 1-4 years of experience in custom residential or hospitality projects   

  • Familiarity with the phases of design and construction assemblies

  • An architectural degree from an accredited 5 year architecture program or equivalent Masters

  • Proficiency in BIM 3D modeling - our office uses ArchiCad; proficiency in ArchiCad is a plus but not required

  • Excellent organization & verbal and written communication skills

This role requires that you:

  • Support the project team in producing complete, accurate and thorough drawing sets for permitting and construction, CSK submittals, client presentations & renderings

  • Research materials, products and systems

  • Research California Building Codes as well as Title 24 & ADA regulations and assist in responding to Agency comments 

  • Coordinate with consultants and provide project management support

  • Have excellent time management skills and are able to work self directed & collaboratively

  • Are legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Residency in the San Francisco / Oakland or Santa Cruz region

This role requires that you:

  • Can lead a project team in producing complete, accurate and thorough drawing sets for permitting and construction, CSK submittals, client presentations & renderings

  • Have experience with permitting & Agency related scope w/ an understanding of applicable codes. 

  • Demonstrated 3D modeling/BIM proficiency - our office uses ArchiCad, proficiency in that program is a plus but not required.  What is required is a willingness to learn a new program.

  • Rendering Skills - our office executes renderings from Archicad with a touch of photoshop and Adobe Suite.

  • Coordinate with consultants and provide project management support

  • Have excellent time management skills and are able to work self directed & collaboratively

  • Are legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Residency in the San Francisco / Oakland or Santa Cruz region

Intermediate  Designer

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • A passion for design & collaborative attitude 

  • 5-10 years of experience in custom residential & commercial projects with a minimum of 1 - 2 in high end residential.   

  • Experience in all phases of design and construction assemblies

  • An architectural degree from an accredited 5 year architecture program or equivalent Masters

  • Proficiency in BIM 3D modeling - our office uses ArchiCad; proficiency in ArchiCad is a plus but not required

  • Excellent organization & verbal and written communication skills
