Challenge
Create a backyard ADU that is large enough for a young family to grow into, but not takeover the entire backyard space, keep visual continuity with the main house that is approaching 100 years old.
Solution
Utilize and expand upon the footprint of the original detached garage to minimize impact on the yard. Nestle ADU footprint into the tetris of the backyard with a compact but efficient layout. Lofted kids room over the bathroom, galley kitchen, vaulted ceilings in the living space with windows on all sides expand the perception of the space’s limited square footage.
